The FIS - Skiing Rules - For Your Own Safety!

The FIS-skiing rules apply to all skiers, snowboarders and other similar gliding machines on snow (Big Foot, Firngleiter, Snowbob ...)

  1. Consideration for other skiers and snowboarders
    Every skier and snowboarder has to act in a way, that neither harms nor endangers others.
  2. Control over the speed and driving style
    Every skier and snowboarder has to drive on sight. They have to adjust their speed and their driving style to their abilities and the condition of snow, weater and environment as well as to the traffic density. 
  3. Choice of lane
    The skiers and snowboarders coming from behind has to chose their lane so that skiers and snowboarders in front of them are not endangered.
  4. Overtake
    Overtaking is allowed from above or below, from left or right but only with enough space that gives the other skier or snowboarder enough room for their moves.
  5. Running-in and starting
    Every skier and snowboarder who wants to run-in into a ski-run, to start again after a stop or drive uphill, has to make sure above and below, that they can do so without endangering themselves or others.
  6. Stoping
    Every skier and snowboarder has to avoid staying at narrow and unclear passages of a ski run without being in danger. Tumbling skiers or snowboarders have to leave such spots as soon as possible.
  7. Ascent and Descent
    A skier and snowboarder who ascends or descends by foot has to use the edge of the ski run.
  8. Note the signs
    Every skier and snowboarder has to note the markings or signals.
  9. Help
    Every skier and snowboarder is obligated to help in case of an accident.
  10. Assistance
    Every skier and snowboarder, witness or involved, responsible or not, has to give their personal datas in case of an accident.
